The sharing of knowledge and development of talent has always been a key part of Firedrums, and workshops are the most visible aspect of this process. In
2008, Firedrums featured workshops taught by some of the best instructors in the world, and we expect this year to be no different. Last year we had both large and small workshops, at levels from introductory to advanced, on a large variety of different props and techniques- such as poi, staff, hoop, drumming, clubs, building equipment, and fire safety. Without members of the community stepping up and volunteering their time and effort to teach workshops, Firedrums would not have become what it is.
Firedrums is now accepting submissions to instruct workshops for 2009.
Guidelines for workshop submissions are shown below. The deadline for submissions is Friday March 13th, 2009.
Firedrums 2009 Workshop Submission Guidelines/Instructions
Workshops will be submitted though the firedrums website this year. In order to submit a class, please do the following:
1. Create a login at www.firedrums.org
-upload a pic and short bio (that we can link to your workshop)
2. Click on the "Classes" tab
3. Click on "Click here to submit a new class or affinity group"
4. Fill out the form (ignore the "class track" tab, that is a holdover from the wildfire site which kindly shared software with us.)
-make sure to include if you will have extra props to borrow if it is an unusual class
-let us know when you will be able to teach, the earliest workshops are thursday afternoon and the latest are sunday at noon.
Please keep in mind that there will be limited space for workshops, we'll do our best to allow everyone to participate, but every year some workshops get turned down. If you have a few workshops you'd be able to teach, please submit them both.

Re: Call for 2009 Firedrums workshop instructors
Thu, February 19, 2009 - 6:18 PMSo, looks like the site is having some issues. I haven't yet heard back from Noel or Chad about the issue (they have been notified), and there isn't much I can do from my end as I don't have code access.
I will post something as soon as the site becomes functional, if it continues to have issues I'll just post an email address for submissions and ask for all the details and then submit them into the site myself (I currently am getting the same error message everyone is).
All apologies... -

Re: Call for 2009 Firedrums workshop instructors
Thu, February 19, 2009 - 9:17 PMMy fault. Since the site was brough together a bit on the last minute side, a lot of the organizers are just seeing what features and functionality this baby has. And they learn this, they are also seeing things that need to change to fit FireDrums needs. So, we have been making some small changes on the fly, and one of the changes broke things a little. It is fixed now and no more changes will be going in (as far as I know). Again sorry for the delay.

Re: Call for 2009 Firedrums workshop instructors
Thu, February 19, 2009 - 11:20 PMIt's quite all right. You folks are dedicated and work very hard. We can afford to wait.
(**...she said while rocking back and forth, biting her nails down to the cuticles in a frenzied reversion to primate self-grooming behavior**) ;)
No, seriously, you folks totally rock. -

Re: Call for 2009 Firedrums workshop instructors
Thu, February 19, 2009 - 11:50 PM"My fault." Are you serious Chad?!?! As much as I appreciate what we had previously and am very thankful to Chris for hosting us for the past 2 years "for free" and to Anke for setting up what we had on her spare time from work, we have a website that is now 10 times more useful than what we had before and it's all come together in a few weeks, "for free" and all because of your very hard work, dedication and generosity.
Let me just say this Mr Bennett,
YOU ABSOLUTELY ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!
(PS, Hey Noel, can we spare a few $$ out the budget to get Anna a proper manicure and new nails) -

Re: Call for 2009 Firedrums workshop instructors
Fri, February 20, 2009 - 6:36 AMAnd above and beond all the thanks you deserve Chad... to then take sole responcibility for somthing that goes all sideways on you w/o a bunch of excuses (just solutions) is more than comendable, its refreshing.

Re: Call for 2009 Firedrums workshop instructors
Fri, February 20, 2009 - 9:56 AMThanks for the sweet offer, Sky, but a manicure would be wasted on someone like yours truly. Besides, if what my kung fu teacher has always said is true (and it always is!) the sword should be an extension of one's hand, and if that's the case, the blade of the sword could then be said to be one's "nails"....;) -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: Call for 2009 Firedrums workshop instructors
Fri, February 20, 2009 - 5:56 PMMaltese, I want to learn kung fu sword/sabor from you! Missed your workshop last year, however I remember it was on my "wish list" to take.
Will submit workshop info once the site is working. Thanks Chad, Noel and Silence for the time you extend to Fire Drums. -

Re: Call for 2009 Firedrums workshop instructors
Tue, March 3, 2009 - 6:28 PMHey Isa,
I currently don't have a workshop request from you on the site. Did you submit one through the site or by email? If there is a glitch from the site, I can contact everyone individually that has submitted. -
-
Re: Call for 2009 Firedrums workshop instructors
Tue, March 3, 2009 - 6:48 PMI also submitted a workshop awhile ago and didn't hear back. :) I did it through the site.

Re: Call for 2009 Firedrums workshop instructors
Tue, March 3, 2009 - 7:08 PMYours Truly as well. No confirmation as of yet...? -
-
Re: Call for 2009 Firedrums workshop instructors
Tue, March 3, 2009 - 7:21 PMI am adding a line in everyone's profile main page that says if they have submitted any new classes or to teach an existing class. Give me an hour to finish this.
If you don't see this on the main screen when you login and go to "Your Info", then you don't have any applictions in the system. There are a ton in there, so it would be tough to send individual emails to everyone.
Will post when it is up. -

Re: Call for 2009 Firedrums workshop instructors
Tue, March 3, 2009 - 8:03 PMok... it is in there. Login and go to your info page. If your application to teach or suggested class application have been received, you will see a line at the bottom of the text area that says how many applications you have submitted. -
-

-
Re: Call for 2009 Firedrums workshop instructors
Wed, March 4, 2009 - 8:54 PMThanks for setting that up, Chad.
...and a not to the instructors, Hannah and I are going to wait until the deadline before we pick classes, just to be fair, so my apologies but you'll have to wait until then.
